Construction supervision activity related to the installation of the ETCS (European Train Control System).
Project objective:
Supervision of train movements, guaranteeing the safety of rail traffic at all operating situations and ensuring interoperability. The ETCS subsystem is part of ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System). The three sectors of ERTMS are operation management, traffic safety and communication. ETCS warrants the safety of traffic.
ETCS mainly involves train control functions and procedures. The ETCS system relies on existing conventional station and plain line interlocking equipment.
Several installation levels were determined for the setup of the system. The installation levels are different in terms of the functions to be performed, the localisation of the performance of functions and the method of data transmission. The railway investments realised in Hungary targeted the implementation of the ETCS 2 level. In this case, the radio control centre processes interlocking equipment and train control information obtained from the units installed on the railway track, relying on station and line interlocking equipment and performs data transmission to trains via the GSM-R communication system.
