Construction of the Békéscsaba – Lőkösháza railway line section

Project objective:

Modernisation of the national public railway line section No. 120 between Békéscsaba (exc.) – Lőkösháza country border (between hm sections 868+83 – 1171+39) with nearly 30 km length, reconstruction of the existing railway track, construction of a second track, execution of signalisation and telecommunication works, realisation of ETCS L2 installation and related works.

The project objective is to increase axle load from 210 kN to 225 kN and speed limit from 100 km/h to 160 km/h.

Stations to be upgraded in the project section:

• Szabadkígyós station (installation of 12 new sets of turnouts)
• Kétegyháza station (installation of 24 new sets of turnouts)
• Lőkösháza station (installation of 38 new sets of turnouts)

Modernisation of the entire track network of the stations. Construction of 55 cm high station platforms, 2 underpasses, elevators, platform canopies , ADA accessibility, installation of area lighting, modernisation of passenger facilities.

Construction of a noise protection  wall with approx. 5.5 km length, establishment of P+R and B+R systems at the stations. Installation of a temporary interlocking equipment, conversion of a signal receiver interlocking equipment in operation at a large station, adapting to track construction phases.

Installation of new, electronic station interlocking systems with shunting routes at Szabadkígyós, Kétegyháza and Lőkösháza stations, with the connection of electrically operated points (74 pcs).

Installation of 75 Hz realtime signalisation in the line section (approx. 60 km of tracks).

Installation of automatic, high speed block signalisation equipment and safety equipment for level crossings with the provision of ETCS 2 criteria.

The primary tasks of the ETCS system are the supervision of train circulation by establishing connection between trackside equipment and the vehicle, increasing the safety of rail traffic and providing interoperability.
